Cyclamen

Cyclamen are blooming plants that love cool temperatures. Indoor environments in Colorado can be challenging, but there are some techniques you can employ so cyclamen will bloom until warmer spring weather triggers dormancy.

Cyclamen

Cyclamen enjoy cool, bright and moist conditions. Fifty to 60 degrees Fahrenheit is the ideal temperature for these plants. For best results, place plants on an east or north windowsill. An east windowsill with some direct morning light is ideal, but a north window should be bright enough. They may freeze however, if allowed to touch the glass.

Cyclamen won’t tolerate dry conditions. By the same token, they don’t do well when they’re forced to sit in a saucer of water, so be sure to allow the soil surface to begin to dry out between waterings. When you do water, thoroughly wet the soil until some water drains into the saucer. Empty the saucer after a fifteen-minute soak.Cyclamen

When the leaves yellow and the blooms shrivel, remove them by pulling sharply on the stem just beneath the leaf blade or flower. This removes the entire stem and prevents disease from developing in the crown of the plant.
