What is the Green Industry? We are the 26,000 men and women that are employed in Colorado to keep homes, businesses and government facilities looking good. We plant and maintain the trees, the sod, and the flowers that decorate, add beauty and clean the environment. The combined gross wholesale income of the green industries of Colorado totals $1.4 billion.
If you’re interested in studying our field, you can go to Front Range or Northeastern Community Colleges or Colorado State University to study horticulture. If you want to volunteer in this field you can go to the Denver Botanic gardens, Hudson gardens or become a Master gardener at Colorado State University Extension.
The Green Industry is divided into functional areas which tend to overlap. Nurseries handle perennials, annuals and a few even sell cut flowers. Landscape architects design landscapes that include flowers and outdoor living ideas.
Our member associations are delighted to be a part of Planttalk Colorado™ to help you understand what to do when you own a tree, sod or a flower. Some of these functional groups include:
- Organizations working with trees and shrubs such as the Colorado Nursery Association and the International Society of Arboriculture.
- Organizations working in landscape design or installation are the American Society of Landscape Architects and the Associated Landscape Contractors of Colorado.
- Organizations working with sod, turf and lawn care include the Rocky Mountain Sod Growers Association and the Colorado Association of Lawn Care Professionals.
- Organizations working with annuals, perennials and cut flowers include the Colorado Greenhouse Growers Association, garden Centers of Colorado and the Wholesale Florists of Colorado.
